As believers, we are no longer slaves to sin. Romans 6:14 declares, “For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.” Through the finished work of Jesus on the cross, we have been given victory over sin. This means that we are not bound by our sinful nature anymore—we have been set free to live in righteousness through Christ.
Many Christians continue to struggle with sin because they do not fully understand or accept the victory that Christ has won for them. It’s important to remember that Jesus didn’t just save us from the penalty of sin, but also from its power. We are dead to sin and alive to God (Romans 6:11). The key to walking in this victory is to reckon ourselves dead to sin and submit to the leading of the Holy Spirit, who empowers us to live righteously.
Victory over sin doesn’t mean we will never stumble, but it means that sin no longer has dominion over us. When we fall, we can come to God in repentance, knowing that He is faithful and just to forgive us (1 John 1:9). We don’t have to live in guilt or shame because Christ has already paid the price for our redemption.
As we grow in our walk with Christ, we must continually renew our minds with the truth of God’s Word (Romans 12:2). By doing so, we reinforce the reality of our victory and strengthen our ability to resist temptation. Our journey toward righteousness is empowered by grace, and the more we rely on God’s strength, the more we experience the freedom that is ours in Christ.
